Best Live Darkwave Duos in 2026

Darkwave is having a serious resurgence. The 80s-influenced sounds, the driving bass lines, and dark themes fit the current moment perfectly.

While there are lots of amazing goth and darkwave acts like Depeche Mode, Molchat Doma, and The Cure still playing massive shows around the world, new bands are carrying the torch in local scenes.

There’s something special about the energy that you see between a duo. Whether they’re close friends, a romantic partnership, or deeply connected comrades, the energy from ttwo people on stage is something special.

If you’re itching to see an exciting darkwave duo, you can’t go wrong with the following

Dark Chisme

Dark Chisme is a duo of E and Christine Gutierrez. The two are gaining a lot of attention thanks to their 2025 self-titled album.

They bring together the dark club aesthetics of 80s goth with the sound of pulsing modular synths. The lyrics are dark and personal while the songs resonate like 80s dance club remixes.

Based in Seattle, they tout influences from latin, house, techno and classic darkwave. On stage, Christine handles most of the vocal duties and crowd interactions while E provides much of the ambience. Not to be missed.

GHOST COP

Brooklyn’s Ghost Cop has been appearing on stages around the world for nearly 10 years. Fronted by Lucy Swope and visual artist Sean Dack, Ghost Cop marries 80s horror and sci-fi aesthetics with the sounds of basement clubs of yesteryear.

Their deep bass sounds and cinematic ambience create for a moody vibe captured well on their End Credits LP. Their more recent LP, Trouble, finds them ready for the dance floor, with moody lyrics and textures.

Their live performances are perfectly matched to the haunted mood of their music, with a mix of synth pop, post-punk, and darkwave elements.

Drab Majesty

Drab Majesty is the brainchild of Andrew Clinco who performes as Deb Demure alongside Alex NIcolaou as “Mona D”.

The two combine futuristic and occult themes with 80’s influence. Their songs range from psychedelic to classic mid-fi darkwave, always with a driving beat and bassline.

Their songs often include lush compositions and soundscapes while also embracing the aesthetics of gothic rock, shoegaze, and dream pop.

Their performances pack a lot of energy for just two members.

MIDNIGHTCHOIR

New to the scene, New York City’s MIDNIGHTCHOIR performs leftist political anthems in the style of 80s darkwave, coldwave, and synth pop compositions.

The result is a confrontational mix of punk, dance music, and gothic rock and even some of the Puerto Rican rhythms of Bobilin’s upbringing.

Vocalist Patrick Bobilin sings incisively about the current state of politics, economics, and institutional power while Sarah Simon hammers out driving beats and sings lithe and soaring harmonies.

The two have shared the stage with Martin Dupont and members of KMFDM. Their recent album DEBTORS DISCO is packed full of singalong political anthems accompanied by the driving beat of Depeche Mode.

TRAITRS

TRAITRS is an exciting new duo from Canada with the pulsing beat of acts like Cold Cave and Boy Harsher, along with guitar work and soaring vocals rivaling the work of The Cure.

They’re rooted in Canada’s goth and post-punk scenes. With their blend of emotional songwriting and brooding electronics, they’re bringing something exciting to darkwave.

As a duo, their sound holds a dynamic heft. On stage, the performance is electric, much as any other band in the genre.

Twin Tribes

More than any other band on this list, Twin Tribes has made a significant mark on the dark wave scene.

Formed in Texas ten years ago, Luis Navarro and Joel Niño, Jr play a style of gothic rock that brings in a large Latino fanbase. As darkwave, dark cumbia, and goth music are having a strong moment in spanish-speaking regions of the world, Twin Tribes are poised to make a mark.
